Greater Victoria on Vancouver Island has one of the strongest economies in the world, with nearly 900 IT and technology companies offering thousands of jobs to qualified employees. Outside of Victoria, Vancouver Island’s employment sector is largely dominated by the forestry, fishing, tourism and outdoor recreation industries. The larger employment centres are Victoria, Sidney, Duncan (Cowichan Valley), Nanaimo, Parksville and Qualicum Beach, Tofino and Ucluelet, Courtenay and Comox (Comox Valley), Campbell River, and Port McNeill and Port Hardy on north Vancouver Island.
